Vettaiyan Review: Rajinikanth Shines, But the Plot Feels Overextended

People are crazy about Rajnikanth sir, wherever he goes people follow him with same enthusiasm, and Vettaiyan is no exception. The film released in 10th October 2024 revolves around the cop played by Rajni sir who is an encounter specialist, however in one of his encounter he finds himself caught between dilemma of  justice and injustice setting the stage for drama to unfold.

Adding to the star power, Amitabh bachchan sir plays the role of a judge. His role felt more like an extended cameo in the film, and he plays a important role in bridging the gap between the innocent and the criminal. However for the full story and its twists, audience will need to experience the film themselves.

The films first half feels like it has wrap up the whole movie, but second half is where the actual story begins.  Despite the impressive lineup featuring Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati, the movie seems unnecessarily extended. It feels like the makers added extra layers just to accommodate the ensemble cast.

Vettaiyan movie doesn’t shy away from showing any sensitive issues, but it takes time getting there. The film addresses the range of topics including law and order, police and judiciary dynamics, drug smuggling, education, and even corruption within the education system. This diversity, while ambitious, can feel overwhelming and scattered.

While film try to portray Rajni sir as similar light as they did in jailer, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. The climax, too, feels forced. Though the movie refrains from vulgar language and explicit scenes, still there are certain sensitive topics that make it unsuitable for children.

Overall, Vettaiyan offers a mix of entertainment and social commentary but struggles with pacing and coherence. With a few more tweaks, it could have been more impactful.

Rating: 3.5/5
