Directed by Rohit Shetty, Singham Again released on 1 November 2024 is an action-packed ride that stands true to the expectations built by the film’s trailer. This movie is the latest offering in the big cinematic universe that includes Singham 1, Singham 2, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi. Shetty has told a story that weaves all these films together, boasting characters both old and new.
Ajay Devgn returns as the unstoppable Bajirao Singham, and Kareena Kapoor shines as Avni, his wife. The story begins amidst the breathtakingly beautiful and chaotic Kashmir, where Singham locks horns with Omar Hafeez, essayed by the legendary Jackie Shroff. The character of Hafeez was introduced in Sooryavanshi and warns Singham about an impending danger—that is Danger Lanka, played by Arjun Kapoor, who is the lead antagonist of this film.
The ante is upped when Avni is kidnapped and whisked away to Sri Lanka, with the rescue mission led by none other than Singham himself. The ensemble cast includes Akshay Kumar as Sooryavanshi, Ranveer Singh as Simmba, Deepika Padukone as Shakti Shetty, and Tiger Shroff as ACP Satya, channeling their characters to have an adrenaline-packed adventure akin to the Ramayana.
The entire foundation is great, but it lacks impressing the audience overall, through hero introductions. If their introductions are not engaging enough, here comes the rescue in the form of intelligent dialogues. Among all, Arjun Kapoor as Danger Lanka has done a great job owing to his impressive first look, fantastic music, and an energetic entry which set the right tone for his character.
Most of the characters have extended cameos which culminate into a spectacular climax where all the heroes come together and take the villain down. Ranveer Singh puts in an exception with great comic turns, energetic performance, while the very buffed-up Tiger Shroff does some great stunts, underutilized largely, and Akshay Kumar conveys an element of excitement given how stylishly he performs the action pieces.
Though Singham Again may not scale the full-throttled highs of Singham 1 or Simmba, the film is a far cry from turning out to be a disappointment. There is a mid-credit scene in the movie that introduces another new character, thus leaving the audience wanting more such surprises.
In short, Singham Again is an entertainingly heady cocktail of action, drama, and friendship. A fan of the franchise would love the feel of it and its resumption into this action-packed saga that makes it worth watching for adrenaline junkies.
