The demise of Ratan Tata has created an urgent need for new leadership at Tata Trusts. Ratan Tata did not appoint any successor before his death, thus leaving this decision for the board of trustees. These trusts include sir Dobarji Tata Trusts and Sir Ratan Tata Trust, Hold a 66% Stake in Tata Sons, making them crucial stakeholders in the $165-billion Tata Group.
Who are the frontrunners?
The chairman of the Tata group will be decided by the 13 trustees. Noel Tata, half brother of Ratan Tata and current chairman of trent. With over 40 years in Tata group and as trustee since 2019, at the age of 67 makes him a strong candidate.
However, others are also in the mix. Venu Srinivasan of TVS Group and Vijay Singh, a former defense secretary, are vice-chairmen of the Trusts and have contributed significantly to its governance. Despite this, the preference for a family member within the Parsi community favors Noel Tata.
The decision will be depend on the agreement among the trustees, with key figure like Mehli Mistry and Darius Khambata also palying vital roles. While Ratan Tata’s wishes are not legally binding, his influence may guide the final choice.
