In a significant legal development, the Mumbai Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Dr. Rashmi Saluja, Executive Chairperson of Religare Enterprises, along with Nitin Aggarwal, Group CFO, and Nishant Singhal, Group General Counsel. The FIR, lodged at Matunga Police Station, stems from a complaint by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) accusing these senior officials of making false allegations against the Burman family. The FIR was announced by Religare Enterprises on Monday.
The complaint alleges that Saluja and her colleagues were involved in a scheme to falsely accuse the Burman family and former promoters of Religare Finvest, Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh, of financial wrongdoing. The allegations pertain to Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The ED’s investigation, which began last month, involved searches at various premises linked to the officials, leading to the seizure of critical documents, including bank and demat accounts.
The FIR follows a complaint by Vaibhav Gawli, an office assistant at a Mumbai pet cafe, who alleged that funds were illegally siphoned from Religare Finvest. The complaint also implicated certain Burman family members who had previously expressed interest in acquiring a significant stake in Religare Enterprises. This legal action underscores the serious nature of the allegations and highlights ongoing scrutiny into the financial practices of Religare Enterprises.
As the investigation continues, the involvement of high-profile executives in this case raises important questions about corporate governance and accountability within major financial institutions. The outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications for both Religare Enterprises and the Burman family.
