NEW DELHI: With Bangladesh 9 wickets down, India went for the kill. The first session was extended by 30 minutes but the veteran Mushfiqur Rahim was at it again, putting up a frustrating and stubborn resistance.
Jasprit Bumrah had dismissed Taijul Islam to reduce Bangladesh to 130/9 but India captain Rohit Sharma took him out of the attack and brought in Ravichandran Ashwin.
Ashwin bowled two overs in tandem with Ravindra Jadeja. Both the veterans tried their best, but to no avail. The clock was ticking. The frustration increasing.
Rohit had enough and brought Bumrah back in the attack, with the ball slightly older.
Bumrah bowled a full delivery, a yorker, a good length ball in the channel, but Khaled Ahmed survived and even managed to hit a boundary off the third delivery.
And on the penultimate delivery, Khaled Ahmed took a single to let Mushfiqur Rahim play the last ball before lunch.
Always with a trick up his sleeve, Bumrah bowled a slow off-cutter, Rahim needlessly went for a big shot, was beaten by pace as the ball came in after pitching to knock out the middle stump, as the Indians celebrated.
Bumrah 3/17. Bangladesh 146 all out on the last ball before lunch. India to chase 95 for victory.
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) shared a video of the dismissal on their official X handle:
