Israel Strikes Iran in Retaliation for Missile Attack

In an ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, Israel carried out airstrikes early Saturday morning, In response to a major missile attack from Iran on October 1, where roughly 200 ballistic missiles were launched at Israel. According to the Israeli government, these airstrikes were a direct retaliation to the missile assault. Israel claims that Iran, along with its allied groups, has been targeting Israel, justifying the airstrikes as a form of self-defense.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that “Like every sovereign country, Israel has the right and duty to respond.” Iran reported that its air defenses successfully intercepted some of the incoming Israeli strikes. However, despite these defensive efforts, two Iranian soldiers lost their lives, and limited structural damage occurred. U.S. President Joe Biden was kept informed of the operation by his national security team, yet U.S. did not directly participate in the airstrikes.
