As Israel launched airstrikes on Iran’s military infrastructure early saturday, several Muslim-majority countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Iraq, publicly condemned Israel’s actions. Israeli spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari announced that Israel activated its military resources and systems, like missile defense and surveillance, to prepare for potential retaliatory actions from Iran or its allies, given the heightened tensions. Hagari also urged Israeli citizens to stay alert. The strikes come amid a visit by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who aims to facilitate a ceasefire in the Middle East.
A U.S. defense official clarified that the United States was informed about Israel’s airstrikes on Iran before they occurred, meaning Washington was aware of Israel’s plans in advance. Despite this notification, the U.S. did not participate in or support the strikes, highlighting that Israel acted alone in its decision to launch the operation.
