Born in the Sargodha district in Gah, now Pakistan on September 26, 1932, the entry into an unassuming academic into one of the most respected leaders of contemporary India is nothing short of inspirational. He was finance minister in Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s government and instrumental in framing the economic liberalization policy of 1991 that transformed India as one of the world’s strongest economic forces.

He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House from 1998 till 2004. Thoughtful and well-balanced interventions made him a respectable figure across party lines.
In several stages in his tenure as Prime Minister, he was able to move the country through its difficult times. The first came by and about the global financial crisis 2008. His policies and priorities were much more biased toward economic growth, the prosperity of villages and strong India on the international level.

Manmohan Singh retired in April 2024 after six glorious decades as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
