NEW DELHI: The India team on Sunday had a mediocre outing on Day 2 of the Gabba Test as Travis Head and Steve Smith tons flattened the visitors and took Australia to a commanding 405 for 7 in the first innings.
With centurions Head and Smith piling up a massive 241-run stand for the fourth wicket, India players had a disgruntled look on their faces for the most of the day.
And amid the frustration, India pacer Mohammed Siraj was seen firing in an unnecessary and wild throw that almost injured teammate Ravindra Jadeja.
The incident took place on the last ball of the 63rd over of the innings when Head tucked the ball to point for an easy single.
Siraj, who was stationed there, quickly grabbed the ball and threw it at the non-striker’s end. With Head already making his crease, Siraj’s throw was way off the radar and a stunned Jadeja, who somehow managed to stop the ball but then angrily gestured to Siraj to calm down a bit.
“There is a bit of civil war on the field as Siraj’s enthusiasm gets the better of him. He flung the ball so hard that it could have gone for four byes, but Jadeja gave him a right look. He must have said, ‘You almost broke my finger, pal. Take it easy’,” said commentator Mark Nicholas, explaining the incident on-air.

While Head notched up a second consecutive ton of the series, firing a sizzling 160-ball 152, Smith also scored his first ton since 2023 Ashes, hitting 101 off 190 balls.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah yet again turned out to be the star performer as he grabbed a fifer amid the batting masterclass from the Aussies.
After only 13.2 overs were bowled on the opening day, Australia batters put up a strong show, taking their total past the 400-run mark for the first time in this Border-Gavsakar Trophy.
