NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, New Zealand’s Melie Kerr, and Ireland’s Orla Prendergast have been shortlisted for the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2024.
Athapaththu had an exceptional year, amassing 720 runs at an impressive average of 40, including two centuries and four half-centuries.
Her all-round ability was evident as she also claimed 21 wickets at an average of 16.8. Notably, her memorable performance against India in the Asia Cup final, where she scored a crucial 61, guided Sri Lanka to their first-ever Asia Cup triumph.
Melie Kerr had a remarkable year, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. She scored 387 runs at an average of 24.18 and took 29 wickets at an average of 15.55.
Her standout performance came in the Women’s T20 World Cup final against South Africa, where she scored 43 runs and claimed 3/24, playing a pivotal role in New Zealand’s historic title victory.
Laura Wolvaardt led from the front as the captain, amassing 673 runs at an impressive average of 39.58, including a maiden T20I century.
Her memorable performance came against Australia in the T20 World Cup semi-final, where her crucial knock of 58 not out guided South Africa to their first-ever final appearance.
Orla Prendergast had an outstanding year, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer (544 runs at 36.26) and the highest wicket-taker (21 wickets at 12.9) for Ireland in Women’s T20Is.
Her memorable performance came against England, where she scored a career-best 80 and took 2/31, playing a pivotal role in Ireland’s series-tying victory.
