Vistara flight travelling from Frankfurt, Germany to Mumbai, India, experienced a bomb threat through social media. The plane which carried 147 passengers arrived safely on Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Wednesday morning.
As a safety measure, authorities followed standard security procedures: they moved the aircraft to a designated isolation area away from other airport activities to prevent any potential risk. All passengers were then safely removed from the aircraft so that authorities could carry out a thorough inspection of the plane to ensure there was no actual threat or danger present.
The bomb scare involving the Vistara flight is part of a troubling trend, as there has been a noticeable increase in bomb threats directed at both domestic and international flights in India. In total, 18 such bomb alerts have been reported recently, indicating a widespread concern over airline safety.
In response to the increasing number of threats, authorities have taken precautionary measures to increase security at airports. Notably, security drills were conducted at Terminals 1 and 2 of Mumbai Airport to prepare staff and strengthen protocols to deal with such threats. The purpose of these exercises is to ensure that airport personnel are equipped to respond effectively to any potential security incident, thereby enhancing the overall safety of air travel during this dangerous period.
Another flight operated by IndiGo from Mumbai to Delhi was also diverted to Ahmedabad due to the bomb threat. All passengers disembarked safely and safety protocols were followed. IndiGo’s Riyadh to Mumbai flight was redirected to Muscat after receiving a similar threat.
Authorities continue to investigate these incidents as a precautionary measure.
